Kinja'd!!!

Usually when I make a cry for help post like this, there’s been some sort of catastrophic failure somewhere deep within within the bowels of my S class and it’s hemorrhaging oil like the Exxon Valdez. While that is currently the case, the car is still in storage for another few weeks so I don’t really care if it’s broken right now. I was at the bar last weekend talking benzes with some guy, when he mentioned that he had an R129 SL600 sitting on collapsed hydraulics. He said he’d be willing to part with it for $2500-3000. I’ve heard it’s much easier to swap the suspension from ADS to regular SL500 struts than it is to ditch W220 ABC. Is this the case, or am I chasing a false hope?

Don’t mind me, I’m just here to approve of the Malachite Metallic R129.

The best part is that’s the color my diamond in the rough supposedly is.

129's do not have my approval and I refuse to assist with this. Same goes for 140's.

Only sort of kidding.

I can understand the 140 hate, but I thought the 129s were supposed to be fairly solid.

That entirely depends on the specific 129. Last couple years with a 113 engine? Extremely solid. Early ones? Lololololol

Mainly they’re always a pain when they come into the shop. For a bunch of different reasons.

I think this is a 97 with an M120.

Could be worse but I still don’t support this.

The 120 isn’t that bad. But it’s still over 20 years old and in that funny range where the car has a lot going on but is too dumb to be able to help you diagnose issues. Diagrams and service information can be tricky to find and interpret. 9/10 have been extremely neglected for a long time. The risk isn’t worth the reward to me. Unless it has equal length headers!

What catastrophic failure? There is no failure. This was planned!

My S600 is ABSOLUTELY NOT currently sitting at the shop with the coils off and being sent for rebuilding because the missfires won’t stop long enough to pass inspection.

THAT IS NOT HAPPENING RIGHT NOW AS I TYPE THIS!

Of course of course, everything is going swimmingly. Just as your car isn’t currently in the shop, mine doesn’t have an oil puddle underneath it. Definitely doesn’t have that happening. Totally.

And I am NOT also having my distronic fixed...which is apparently tough going on the diagnostic.

I am totally NOT in denial and totally NOT about to be really poor for 6 months.

W220 forever! M275 forever! Sonderklasse forever!

W220 S600 best S600. I’m getting close to buying a newer car to take the S600 off of active daily driver duties, so it doesn’t have to go out in the rain or snow and so I can finally start my quasi dream LS400 build. I’m bouncing between an LS430 and an Equus. Do you have any experience with the Hyundai? I’m leaning towards a late model 430 right now but I’m not certain.

I had a 2014 Equus Signature on my lot concurrently with a 2015 Kia K900. So, yes, I do have experience with the Tau 5.0. I would recommend you try both actually. It really depends on how you like to drive and what position you like to sit in when driving actually.

A K900 V8 with the VIP package will get you everything you could possibly need in a lower slung package with better response. Its got soft close doors, power rear heated and cooled seats, sunshades all around, banging Lexicon stereo, adaptive cruise, and surround view. My favorite K900 “feature” though is that the seat and column adjustments allow you like to drive with the wheel in your lap, like an old American car. Honestly, if Cadillac was doing Cadillac correctly right now, the K900 drives exactly how a 2015 DeVille would have, floaty and effortless.

Now, that being said, is it easy to resist the fixed rear console and 95%-of-a-Maybach-57-without-the-repair-bills panache of an Equus Ultimate? No, it’s not. The driving position is identical to a 220 or 221, the seats are wide and plush, and it’s just a really nice place to be. Plus, what other car at that price point has window switches for each rear window on both of the rear doors? Not many. I want an Equus because more - but a K900 is probably more comfortable for me.
